North American Duck Symposium and Workshop

Mentor-Mentee Session: Tuesday, 2 February 2016 at 7pm

NADS7 Student & Professional Mixer & Panel Discussion Flyer

Due to its success at previous duck symposiums as well as positive feedback from past attendees, NADS7 will be offering a waterfowl professional panel and mentor/mentee session to be held on Tuesday February 2nd at 7:00 PM

Sign-up to be a Mentor or Mentee

The intent of this gathering is to prepare current students and recent graduates for the task of pursuing a career in the waterfowl conservation field by offering valuable information that is difficult to obtain elsewhere.  The session will begin with a panel of recent graduates who are now employed in a waterfowl or wetland conservation related position.  During individual introductions we anticipate panelists offering details about the unique path to their current profession before discussing topics to include: effective job search tactics, networking methods, job interview do's and don'ts, résumé writing, and more.  The floor will then be opened for the audience to ask specific questions that were not addressed previously.

Additionally, NADS7 attendees will be afforded the opportunity to sign up to participate as either a mentor (current professional) or mentee (students and other aspiring professionals).  Mentor/mentee pairs will be pre-assigned based on research and management interests. Immediately following the professional panel, each pair will be introduced and enjoy unstructured time to discuss topics related to waterfowl conservation and future employment.  Participating mentees will gain valuable information about what to expect post-graduation and participating mentors will be ensuring that the waterfowl conservation field persists into the future.  All attendees are encouraged to participate.

To sign up as either a mentor or mentee click HERE, select the appropriate sheet (i.e. mentor or mentee) at the bottom of the page and provide the requested information.  When entering information into the spreadsheet please make sure you do not alter anyone else's entries.

For questions regarding the professional panel and mentor/mentee session please contact Jake McPherson (jmpcherson@ducks.org) , Joe Lancaster (jdl303@msstate.edu), or Joe Marty (jrm803@msstate.edu).
