North American Duck Symposium and Workshop

Registration and Hotel Costs

Registration

For budgeting and travel planning for NADS 6/ECNAW, we are posting symposium registration and hotel costs (in US currency; see table below). Costs for NADS 6/ECNAW will be similar to the 2009 NADS 5, especially for student registration. At the symposium registration desk, students should verify their matriculation by showing their current university/college identification card or other similar documentation.

As a registration incentive for students attending the symposium, the first 100 undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in college or university (including high school) during 2012-2013 will receive a copy of the classic book, “To Ride the Wind,” by H. Albert Hochbaum. Long Point Waterfowl (Port Rowan, ON, CANADA) is generously providing these books for students attending the symposium. We are grateful to Long Point for these books and sponsoring the symposium.

Registrant Category NADS (2009) NADS 6/ECNAW (2013)
Regular $300 $350
Regular Student $250 $275
Daily (Regular or Student) $100 $125
On-site Regular   $375
On-site Student   $300
Additional Banquet Tickets $50/each $50/each

The symposium extends 5 days, 27-31 January 2013. Complete registration for all 5 days includes access to all plenary, contributed, special, workshop, and poster sessions; 4 buffet breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 8 refreshment breaks (28-31 January 2013); an opening night mixer (27 January 2013); a closing night banquet with entertainment (31 January 2013); and other evening events yet to be announced. Daily registrants will receive access to the events for the date of registration.

Hotel and Airport Shuttle Costs

The symposium site is the historic Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee (https://resweb.passkey.com/go/Waterfowl13). We have negotiated a competitive, reasonable rate of $165 (US currency) per night for single or double occupancy and $185 per night for triple or quadruple occupancy, compared to the Peabody’s current nightly rate of $295. Please add the following daily charges to these special rates (i.e., local tax of 15.95% plus hotel service fee [HSF] of $11.95 per day). Thus, total estimated cost for single or double occupancy is ~$203 per night. The HSF provides complimentary room Internet access, overnight shoe shine, a morning newspaper, use of the health club, unlimited local and 1-800 calling, and coffee in the Deli during designated hours.

We urge you to stay at the Peabody to ensure we meet our contracted daily hotel residency quotas, and we are not charged for reserved but unused rooms. However, two other nearby hotels are the Doubletree and Hampton Inn. Their costs of double occupancy are very similar to the Peabody. Conferees should make their own hotel arrangements with the Peabody or another hotel. Thank you in advance for reserving at the Peabody. Other Memphis attractions in proximity to the Peabody are described at www.peabodymemphis.com/attractions.

We are exploring with a Memphis vendor in- and out-bound shuttle services between Memphis International Airport and the Peabody. A preliminary estimate is ~$30 roundtrip. Please go to the following URL (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Am2zwMZ3H9B6dFQ2S1ZKaW1CM1NKczE1UFp2YmsxT1E) and enter the requested data in the spreadsheet so we can begin coordinating shuttle services for conferees arriving via airlines.

Need a Roommate at the Peabody?

Go to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Am2zwMZ3H9B6dHJvWTlsNTRKNnoxVk40cjVTbFhwZmc. There is a separate sheet for males and females. After you secure a roommate, please remove your name and contact information from spreadsheet at the site, to preclude being contacted by conferees still seeking a roommate.

Field Trip

Information on a field trip(s) will be forthcoming. We are currently planning a field trip(s) to wintering habitats of North American waterfowl in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley. Please stay tuned for further information, including costs.

Payment and Refunds

Payments, in US currency, for registration may be made by personal check, bank draft, money order, or debit/credit card. Checks, bank drafts, and money orders should be received before early-bird or the later deadline.  Pleae make checks payable to FWRC Waterfowl Symposium and send to:

We understand that U.S. federal employees and perhaps others are experiencing travel restrictions and may not receive authorization to travel until near the symposium. If a registrant is not able to attend the symposium, we will refund his/her cost of registration, less 3%. We must levy this fee because our college is charged it for each on-line (credit/debit card) transaction. Thanks for your understanding.
